Google is actually Getting Serious!

There are all kinds of products made to help blogs update auto-magically. These programs are built upon spiders that crawl the web looking for content that matches key phrases that you have put into the program. Then they take the content they find and set it on your site. You get to enjoy the benefits from having a site full of content that gets updated easily without having to go through the work of actually creating the content yourself. It may seem like a wish come true. Except…

It seems as if Google is gearing up for a considerable cracking down on those sites that aren’t filled with original content. They are adding measures in place that will let them to check your site’s content to make sure that it hasn’t shown up somewhere else first. If your website your operating has mostly copied written content, you might be in for some real trouble. At the very least you’ll lose credibility in the eyes of Google. So what happens to the people who want to create an automated business?

Mostly, this means that business owners and business owners will certainly have to get used to either working harder or paying someone to work harder for them. This is actually a fantastic thing. This helps to defend those people who are working hard to produce original content. This also helps make certain that a person is running a genuine company. If you aren’t very good at creating or writing content for your web page, you need to pay another person to create that content for you. Trust us when we say that the investment shall be worth it.

The genuine truth is that, on the net, lots of websites are built using the hard work of other people. These web sites often use plagiarized articles and then earn money by putting up lots of advertising. While this is usually a great way to make a few extra dollars, if you get caught you can be sure that you are going to get into some major trouble. Stealing is really a truly big deal, in the end. Students almost everywhere will get expelled from school for failing to correctly cite a resource. Think about what type of trouble you may be in if you do not credit your source correctly or if you go so far as to steal another person’s intellectual property. Won’t it basically be a lot easier to just create your own work?

The real truth is that if you really want to make money, you need to be willing to do some serious work. Google is trying to reward individuals who do the hard work and punish folks who are using other people’s hard work for their own benefit. This is for the best. It is going to help even the world wide web between the people who work hard and genuinely want to help people and make a business online and those who simply want to make a quick buck or two but don’t want to do the work.

So, if you are a web entrepreneur, you might want to get ready to perform some real (and often hard) work. Google is just itching to smack down folks that won’t be willing to put in a real effort!

Mastering SEO: what it’s all about

Website/Blog Building & SEO

What’s truly exciting about affiliate marketing is that you can sell all kinds of products. Being an affiliate is about selling somebody else’s product for a commission, but companies in ALL industries have affiliate programs running. From dog training products and services to video games, car/home insurance, books, home furniture, gardening tools, dating offers, computers, holiday packages, the list is just endless…

The number 1 advice I would give you is: choose a niche you’re passionate about! There HAS to be something that you love doing or talking about, something you’re very much into and willing to share. It might even be related to your current job where you have gained some experience other people could be interested in.

Once you have found the subject you want to focus on, you need to do some “keyword research”.  In other words, you need to figure out what it is exactly that most people are looking for. However, you also need to estimate the level of competition for these keywords to avoid running into very competitive territories where it’s really hard to break through. It’s all about the ratio:

Number of Google searches per day / Number of Competitors

When you have your keywords, you need to start writing articles based on them. To do that, you need to setup a Website/Blog. The best tool most people use to create their own site is Wordpress.

Next step is finding offers related to your niche that you could advertise directly inside or next to your articles. You will find these offers by subscribing for free to “affiliate networks” like Clickbank or Commission Junction for example. These networks run thousands of products that you can sell for a commission!

Once you have your website and affiliate offers all setup, you need to get into the most important part of the process: generating TRAFFIC to your site/blog! This is called SEO and will require most of your time and efforts. As pretty and interesting as your website can be, it will not make you any money if there’s nobody to see it! Obvious isn’t it? Nothing is more important to an affiliate marketer than finding ways of driving traffic to his site.

How to approach SEO the right way: a personal story

My main focus has been on SEO in the last 2 years and I’ve achieved some very good results. SEO is all about building quality backlinks to your main site and pages inside it using mostly:

>> Article Directories
>> Social Bookmarking Sites
>> Social Media Sites
>> Forums

I’ve been involved in the gambling niche for quite a while and decided in February 2010 to give the “product launch” niche a try. I started from scratch with a dormant domain name I had (doolder.com) and built a wordpress blog with optimized on-page SEO, just the basics really:

>> Change the permalinks structure to have your keywords in your URLs

>> Add a sitemap and submit it to Google Webmasters to help Google crawl the site

>> Change the Wordpress theme to one of the free “SEO optimized themes” you can get from a basic Google search

>> Create about me, contact, TOS and privacy policy pages that Google loves

At the time obviously I had absolutely no pagerank and 0 backlink, traffic was really poor as you can see below:

My Old Traffic

I then went to jvnotifypro to pick 3 products to work on. I decided to give myself 3 weeks to get ready for the launches at the end of march. I just created basic review posts with product names in the title saying pretty much that I was going to review the products, just a few lines and a picture.

The idea here is to get your pages indexed in Google quickly so that you can start building backlinks and move them up the ranks in Google. Once I had created these posts, I bookmarked them on digg, jumptags and reddit (the most powerful ones), created a few high PR forum profiles with my links and pinged all the URLs with ping-o-matic.

After a couple days my links were showing up in Google, sometimes even surprisingly high in the rankings, that’s the number 1 advantage of starting working on your product launches a few weeks in advance. Then I started a daily backlink building plan based on the following:

>> Article writing and spinning. I would just take an existing article on internet marketing from ezinearticles and rewrite it completely, then add 3 variations to each sentence. That’s enough to bring your article to 35-40% uniqueness. I added 2 links in each article. All the spinning work was done with the free online spinning tool at crewriter.com.

>> Submission to article directories:

==> Ezine Articles ==> Amazines

==> Article Base ==> Article Alley

==> Article Dashboard ==> Go Articles

I know there’s plenty more article directories but only submitted to these ones. Note that I was doing this manually so I couldn’t just blast my articles to 1000 article directories, and I don’t think it’s necessarily a good thing to do anyway.

>> Submission to Blogs I had created on:

==> Blogger ==> Wordpress ==> Diaryland

==> Hubpages ==> Tumblr ==> Blog.com

==> Squidoo ==> Weebly

Once again, you could find more blogs to post to, but these are really the most powerful ones by far, meaning that they get indexed quickly by Google and produce quality backlinks.

>> Submission to free press release services:

==> PRLog
==> BigNews.biz

>> Social Bookmarking for all the article blog URLs on:

==> Digg ==> Delicious
==> Jumptags ==> Mixx
==> Reddit ==> Mister Wrong

I social bookmarked each URL to only 1 social bookmarking site.

>> Pinging of all the URLs on:

==> Ping-o-matic.com

Doing this manually everyday might sound like a lot of work, but you can optimize your time. The initial setup takes a few hours because you have to create a new account to each and every site.

Once I was done with the account creation, I used the free tool iMacros to login automatically to each site, so that I basically just had to take the content and post it… Once you have a nice setup, you can easily go through all these steps in about an hour.

Writing an article and spin it to 35-40% uniqueness can be done in 1 hour if you don’t get distracted. So overall it took me 2 to 3 hours a day for a few weeks. I know there are a LOT of other resources and ways to create backlinks (forum marketing, blog commenting…) but I’m only talking about what I did.

Now the interesting part, my results on traffic 3 weeks later:

My New Traffic!

As you can see I went from an average of 3 visitors a day to an average of more than 200 unique visitors on the week of my first launch (400 unique visitors on launch day), which I think is quite an interesting results in just 3 weeks.

I was ranking Top 3 in Google for the 3 products I launched, which I thought was quite surprising considering that what I did seemed pretty standard and more importantly it was my first try in product launches.

Overall profit was $2,124 in 5 days and then an additional $1,000 over the following 2 weeks, not that bad a result for a first shot…

Nothing really new in what I said but it’s just a proof that you don’t need state of the art technology and highly developed ideas to make money online. I am not going through this process manually anymore, comes a point where tools are definitely necessary if you want to go to bigger things. Also, most niches today have a lot of competition and without the right tools it’s tough to succeed. But remember this: SEO tools make your life easier by making you spend less time on each task, but utlimately tools only do what you tell them to do, so you need to know what you’re doing to start with!
